Emma Guttman-Slater is a strategist and advocate advising nonprofits and social ventures working at the intersections of social impact finance, economic justice, and arts & culture. Most recently, she launched a landmark $3.5 million guaranteed income initiative with Yerba Buena Center for the Arts and developed and implemented a policy advocacy strategy with Creatives Rebuild New York, a $125 million artist guaranteed income and employment initiative. Previously, Emma developed and led advocacy, field building, and strategic communications at Beneficial State Foundation (a financial justice nonprofit and CDFI owner/investor) with the goal to fundamentally change the role banks play in society. Emma has held social justice fellowships with Institute for the Future, Bend the Arc, and Avodah. Emma is a past board member of Pro Arts Gallery & Commons and CreativeMornings Oakland.
Emma was instrumental in script writing for the Solidarity Economy course on Guaranteed Income.

In Eshe's personal life, they are a performance artist and non-linear poet/storyteller/playwright. They went to Hampshire College for theater, where they wrote, starred in, and co-directed their original play, Fat.Black.& Ugly. They are currently rediscovering performance and make work on their Instagram page, producing a series of captioned stories during the pandemic called, #welcomefromthefuture, telling stories that captured a new world after lockdown.
